The Hotel del Coronado (also known as The del or Hotel del) is a beachfront luxury hotel located on Coronado island, a short jump across the bay from San Diego, California. With its iconic red turrets piercing an azure southern California skyline, Hotel del Coronado radiates with a confidence of gracious Victorian splendor without equal.
Built in 1888, this classic beachfront respite has long been heralded as one of America's most beautiful beach resorts. It is one of the few surviving examples of an American architectural genre: the wooden Victorian beach resort. It is the second largest wooden structure in the United States and was designated a National Historic Landmark in 1977, and is a designated California Historical Landmark.
When it opened in 1888, The del was the largest resort hotel in the world. It has hosted presidents, royalty, and celebrities through the years and been featured in numerous movies and books.
The Hotel del Coronado received a Four Diamond rating from the American Automobile Association and was once listed by USA Today as one of the "Top 10 Resorts In The World".
